Description
Pilosocereus rioaguanii sp. nova (Olanchito, Dept. of Yoro, Honduras), 8″-10″ tall, a previously undescribed member of Pilosocereus grown from seed given to me in the U.S. by its discoverer Thomas Cseh, who named it. The location of collection is west of the city of Olanchito on a dirt road just off of paved highway RN23 and not far from the Refugio de Vida Silvestre Colibrí Esmeralda Hondureño where this species is abundant. Though it is not formally described and published, it seems to match perfectly with videos and photos online of the Pilosocereus found in that region. The species name refers to Rio Aguan and Aguan Valley. There is still a lot unknown about the genus in Honduras. I believe this is the first time it has been available to the trade and I have a limited amount. This rare, slow-growing Pilosocereus eventually thickens and becomes a large tree cactus with candelabra branches. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Ui4tub77ZoM
